Dennis J. Zgaljardic, Ph.D., ABPP/CN

Education & Training

Dr. Zgaljardic (a.k.a. “Dr. Z”) is a licensed psychologist in the State of Texas (Lic. # 32885) and is board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology (American Board of Professional Psychologists [ABPP]). He completed his doctoral education (Ph.D.) in Psychology (Neuropsychology subprogram) from The City University of New York (CUNY) – The Graduate Center in New York City, NY.  During his graduate training, he completed externships in acquired brain injury and movement disorders at North Shore University Medical Center in Manhasset, NY and Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY.  Dr. Zgaljardic then completed a 1-year, APA accredited neuropsychology internship (adult epilepsy/neurology) at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, NY followed by a 2-year Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at North Shore University Medical Center, Center for Neuropsychological Services and the Functional Brain Imaging Laboratory in Manhasset, NY, where he specialized in the neuropsychology of movement disorders.

Dr. Zgaljardic moved to Texas in 2005 where he worked in clinical and academic settings in Clinical Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology.  Further, he maintains teaching and training activities for practicum students.  

Clinical Practice, Professional Appointments, & Memberships

Dr. Zgaljardic maintains a full-time private practice (Gulf Coast Neuropsychology, PLLC)  in Houston, TX.  He provides clinical neuropsychological assessment services for individuals ranging from ages 17 years and older.  He works with a wide variety of medical diagnostic groups including, but not limited to, traumatic brain injury; stroke; multiple sclerosis; brain tumors; neurodevelopmental; seizures; dementia and memory disorders of aging; and other neurologic based conditions.

Previously, Dr. Zgaljardic was the Director of Neuropsychology and Clinical Programs at a residential post-acute brain injury rehabilitation program in Galveston County, TX.  Dr. Zgaljardic is a member of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN), the International Neuropsychological Society (INS), American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM), and the Houston Neuropsychological Society (President –  2010). 

Research, Publications, and Teaching

Dr. Zgaljardic is a researcher and is an accomplished presenter and speaker making numerous invited addresses at local, national and international conferences covering topics including neuropsychology, brain injury rehabilitation, concussion management, caregiver burden/distress, and cognitive rehabilitation. He has published numerous professional peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.  His research and writing interests have focused on reliability and validity of neuropsychological assessment measures in brain injury, post-traumatic hypopituitarism, and psychiatric disorder/fatigue post brain injury.  Dr. Zgaljardic has trained several neuropsychology students at the extern, intern, and post-doctoral fellowship levels.
